Teochew Style Steamed Pomfret Fish (21 Feb 14)

Teochew Style Steamed Pomfret Fish

This is my very 1st time buying & cooking fish. Bought this fresh white pomfret at NTUC supermarket and didn't expect it to be so expensive - S$10 for a fish. Super heart pain. Will never buy fish from NTUC supermarket again.

I purchased all the required ingredients for the teochew style steamed fish on the same day from the grocery shop - salted plums, salted vegetables, shiitake mushrooms, tofu, tomato, gingers.

Glad that my very 1st attempt to make fish is very successful. The pomfret is well-steamed with tender meat. If over-steam the fish, the meat will become tough. Overall this dish is nice as the fish is very fresh and although the fish is overloaded with all other ingredients, the taste of the "broth" is nice, neither too bland nor too salty. It goes very well with a bowl of white rice.
